Event Organisation

ESCA English Speaking Cancer Association (Geneva) will  hold its 4th Annual PADDLEforCANCER Dragonboat Festival in the Swiss Romande region on Sunday, September 5th, 2010.

The Lac de Joux Tourist Board and the Centre Sportif de la Vallée de Joux have once again agreed to work with ESCA to organise the races surrounded by a summer festival open to the general public designed to increase general cancer awareness. Food and drink stands, activities for all ages, commercial and crafts booths will be set up at L'Abbaye's lakeside. The municipal fire brigade and the Samaritans will ensure both lake and festival safety.

Race Organisation

ESCA has engaged the services of professional organisers dragonboatevents.ch GmbH to ensure that the 3rd edition of the PADDLEforCANCER Dragonboat Festival is held in the same safe and professional environment.

The supervising team is made up of :

• 1 Professional Race Director who heads the competition
• 1 Chief Marshall in charge of overall safety and coordinating the teams on dry land
• Marshals to assist the Chief Marshall in carrying out dry land duties
• Qualified instructors will brief teams on safety and technique before racing
• Professional Steerspersons, responsible for a team when in the dragonboats; to advise and assist each team, in order to reach full paddling potential
• Timing judges to keep accurate scores
  

dragonboatevents.ch GmbH is the only professional supplier of dragonboat events in Switzerland.  The company was founded in 2000.  Daniel Schmid and Felix Meier are dragonboating professionals who have gained experience over many years by participating in major events such as European and World Championships.  dragonboatevents.ch GmbH achieved its first major coup in 2001, with a race for Swissair management in Montreux.  Today, dragonboatevents.ch GmbH counts a considerable number of well-known companies among its clients.  In addition, dragonboatevents.ch GmbH has made a name for itself as the organiser of large-scale events, including the dragonboat race in Eglisau and the dragonboat race held during the Zürifäscht.

Boats and Paddles

Eight dragonboats, paddles and lifevests will be provided by dragonboatevents.ch GmbH of Switzerland.

The 12-metre long Dragonboats will hold a crew of 16 paddlers plus 1 drummer who beats the time.
