Mini-Regatta Information

 

The Mini-Regatta is a separate event to the main Dragon Boat Races on Lac de Joux and is an opportunity for children’s participation.

The location is at L'Abbaye on the south-east shore of Lac de Joux about two km south of the village of Le Pont, in the same area as the Dragon Boat races.

 

Events

  • Mini Dragonboat - Dinghy with 6 children aged 8-15
    Combined ages not more than 70 years
    To register - complete and return the Mini Dragonboat entry and waiver form.

  • Canoe - Canadian canoe with 2 children aged 6-12
    Combined ages not more than 18 years
    To register - complete and return the Canoe entry and waiver form.

All boats are steered by a competent person provided by the regatta.

Children may enter both events if their ages permit.
Minimum height for all competitors is 1.25m.

Prizes will be presented to the winners of both events.

Entry forms must be completed by parents for all competitors before racing - parent/guardian must sign for every child.

All competitors must be able to swim at least 25m. Non-swimmers are not permitted to compete.

Entries may be submitted in advance (up to 22 August) for individual children as well as whole crews. Individuals without a crew will be put into crews by the organisers. To register, go to the Mini-Regatta Downloads box above.

Entries will also be taken on site on Saturday between 1400-1700 and on Sunday from 0900. Racing will start at 09h30 and finish at 16h30 approximately.

Race Course

Competitors will boat from the area adjacent to the Mini Regatta Control Tent and complete a short course in this area near the bank.

Rules of Racing

   
(1) All competitors must wear the life vest supplied. Clothes may get wet so shorts or swimwear are recommended. Long trousers are discouraged and jeans are not allowed. Sandals are recommended as children will get wet feet.

(2) While boating, competitors must obey instructions from the boating marshals

(3) Competitors will line up their boats as directed on the day

(4) When on the water, competitors must obey instructions from safety boats and from judges

(5) The judge will call out the winner. The judge’s decision is final.

(6) In the event of a clash, the race may be restarted

(7) Crews must stay within the regatta area and not interfere with the Dragon Boat area

(8) If a competitor falls out of a boat and is unable to get to the bank easily, he/she should hold on to the boat but not attempt to get back in. Safety boats will always be close by to help.
