| After several years of partaking in the festivities, reality has dawned upon us that victory may well be beyond our grasp. The realisation is not due to our honed athleticism, team commiitment or well-drilled practiice sessions, but because the winners last year were imbued with superhuman powers. I kid you not, they achieved their feat after a morning of lifting hay bails (and a quick trip to Planet Krypton) in the picturesque countryside around the lake. So this year we have decided to set our sights upon more achievable goals. We may not be the first team past the winner's post, but we are damn well going to have the best merchandising and corporate barbeque this side of the Atlantic. |

| We are the Canadian Dutch chamber of commerce, although we welcome everyone who wants to join our association. Our official beverages are Heineken and Molson Canadian. Last year we came to drink and soak up the great atmoshpere, and ended up coming in second in the open division to the local Bateau du Syndic on the lake. At the bar, we donated a lot of money to the event and we have the extra ESCA cups to prove it. Looking forward to a great event. |

The mixed team won the event on their first outing in 2008 and will be looking to repeat that success in 2011. | We are a mixed bunch, mainly from Paddy's Pub darts team, in Ferney. As there are not enough of us to make up a full team of 20 rowers, we draft in other "sporting greats", including visitors from England who fly over especially for the weekend. Just getting the rabble there in time for registration in the morning is an achievement, and Paddy's Pride is very proud to have taken part in the Festival for the past 3 years. |

A team from the WTO - The last time we did this, under the amazingly inspired name of Pugwash, tension was high, as with the battle cry of "To Infinitly And Beyond" we were off. After 10 breath-taking seconds "a person in a kilt" (who cannot be named for legal reasons) unintentionally distracted the driver (or whatever you call it) by forgeting to corss his legs, thus leaaving the dirver wondering whether or not she was now looking at next week's washing. The next minor blip in our meticulously planned strategy was when the aforementioned driver shouted "right" and someone shouted "that's izquierda isn't it", leading to the real professionals paddling right and the Hispanic population paddling left. Needless to say we didn't win the race.....but we did get first prize for artistic impression!
So this year, under the even more inspired name of wePad, our minor training blips have been sorted, and in the vein of Eddy the Eagle, the Rasta Rochet and the Snow Leopard, we cry "bring it on". Watch this space! |
